2006 Jeep Liberty Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Drive Belt on a 3.7L Engine on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: The drive belt service starts by disconnecting the negative battery cable on a 3.7L engine. Move the belt tensioner all the way over so it meets the stop, then remove the belt and bring the tensioner into the freearm position while turning slowly. A wrongly fitted belt can cause the engine to get too hot because of wrong water pump rotation. Be sure to examine all pulleys for damage before installing any part. Pass the belt from one pulley to the others, stop the tensioner when it meets its stop position, attach the belt to the idler pulley and allow the tensioner to line up with and sit on, all the other pulleys. Check the belt wear indicator too; in 3.7L engines, the gap between the tang and the housing should remain below 24 mm (0.94 inches).
