2006 Jeep Liberty Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Remove and Reinstall a Radiator to Ensure Optimal Functionality on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, take out the negative battery cable, collect the coolant, making sure not to throw away reusable coolant. When using hose clamps, handle them with special clamp tool number 6094 and always remember to wear your safety glasses. Locate where all rubber seals on the radiator link to the body and A/C condenser are meant to fit, ensuring they are installed correctly afterwards to avoid overheating. Remove the front grille, suppose there is a cooling fan and the two radiator mounting bolts too. Take out the electric fan connector, power steering cooler line, both radiator hoses and the overflow hose. Just below the radiator, located on each side, are two alignment dowel pins that fit into rubber grommets in the crossmember. Be careful when you touch anything in the air conditioning system, because parts are often under pressure. The heat guard and cooling fan can be taken off as one piece. With care, pull the radiator from its spot without touching anything else attached. To clean, remove any muck and flush out the radiator and A/C condenser with water and compressed air. Examine the radiator fin to make sure they are not damaged or bent and search the plastic end tanks and neck for leaks or signs of cracks. During the stage of installation, take care that the rubber air seals are fitted correctly. Place the radiator and fan shroud into the vehicle, ensuring the dowels go into the grommets. Most of the hosing is done in the engine bay-link the upper and lower coolant hoses and install the tank hose to complete the job. Attach both the radiator mounting bolts, reattach the electric cooling fan and put back the grille and cooling fan. Rotate the blades manually on the fan, top up the radiator, attach the battery cable and start up the engine to look for any leaks.
