2007 Dodge Caliber Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Steering Knuckle on 2007 Dodge Caliber?
A: Put the steering knuckle in place by aligning the hub with the splines of the halfshaft outer C/V joint. Secure the knuckle onto the screw, making sure that the hole in the knuckle points over the opening in the stud. Place a new star or ball joint stud pinch bolt and nut, fasten the nut with 82 Nm of torque. When installing the vehicle, do not move the strut assembly-knuckle bolts on the steering knucks, but instead screw on the nuts while holding the bolts in place. Make sure the lower end of the strut is directly below the knuckle's upper end and then line up the holes and use the two bolts to assemble them. Set the nuts on the bolts, then tighten the whole unit to 84 Nm. Insert the outer tie rod ball stud into the knuckle arm, begin fastening the tie rod end-to-knuckle nut onto the stud and tighten the nut to 132 Nm as you hold the tie rod end stud with a wrench. Fit the wheel speed sensor head onto the knuckle, secure it with a screw tightened to 12 Nm and then put the routing clip onto the sensor cable. Fit the brake rotor, disc brake caliper and adapter, after which clean the threads of the halfshaft outer C/V joint. Install the halfshaft's washer and its hub nut at the end and tighten them slightly. With help holding the rotor, secure the hub nut with torque equal to 245 Nm. Pass the cotter pin through the nut and its notches, as well as through the hole in the halfshaft, tighten the nut until the notches match the hole and wrap the ends of the cotter pin tightly around the lock nut. Add the tire and wheel, tighten the nuts to the mounting bolt with 135 Nm of torque and drive the car down from the lift. In the case of the original knuckle, Net-Build can make wheel alignment unnecessary; adjust alignment if it is required.
