2008 Dodge Caliber Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Front Steering Knuckle for Service and Repair on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before taking off the steering knuckle, first raise and secure the vehicle, remove the wheel mounting nuts and take off the wheel and tire. After that, carefully take out the cotter pin, lock and spring washer from the halfshaft stub shaft. Apply the brakes with a helper while you take off the hub nut and washer. Please remove the front brake by accessing and taking off the brake rotor. Pull the routing clip away from the knuckle where it secures the wheel speed sensor cable, remove the screw securing the sensor head to the knuckle and remove the sensor head. After placing a wrench on the tie rod end stud, twist the nut out with another wrench. First, use Remover, Special Tool 9360, to remove the outer tie rod end from the knuckle and then take out the outer tie rod. Take out the nut and clamp holding the ball joint stud to the knuckle without turning the serrated strut assembly-to-knuckle bolts. Hold the bolt heads in place and take out the nuts on the bolts hanging the strut from the knuckle. Remove the two bolts from the knuckle with a pin punch. Use a suitable tool to carefully separate the ball joint stud from the knuckle, so you don't damage the ball joint seal. Support the half shaft so the inner C/V joint doesn't seperate and after that, leave the knuckle on the half shaft until the outer C/V joint is offset by the puller before removing the knuckle.
