2007 Dodge Dakota Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Belt Tensioner on 3.7L/4.7L Engines on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: The drive belt tensioner should be serviced and repaired on 3.7L/4.7L engines by ensuring that on 4.7L engines, the tensioner is aligned so the indexing tang is 24 mm (.94 inches) from the indexing stop, while the tensioner is being used for the first time. Should the specification still be unsatisfactory, evaluate whether the correct belt is set or whether bearings on the A/C compressor, power steering pump, water pump, idler pulley or generator are worn; also confirm that pulleys are secured, the engine accessories are properly aligned and that the belt is not directed wrong. Replace a used belt immediately when you notice that the tensioner indexing arrow has hit its smallest indicator, since at this point the tensioner will not function. Take out the accessory drive belt first and then haul out the tensioner assembly from where it is attached to the mounting bracket. because of high spring pressure, it is not recommended to take apart the automatic tensioner; except for the tensioner pulley, it is always serviced as an assembly. After that, eliminate the pulley bolt to detach the pulley from the tensioner.
