2007 Dodge Dakota Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Change the Water Pump on a 3.7/4.7L Engine on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step to changing the water pump on a 3.7/4.7L engine is to clean the areas where the gasket meets. Place the new gasket and water pump (1) before mounting and tightening all the bolts to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). The impeller should not rub agains the timing chain case/cover, allowing the water pump to spin as it should. Arrange the upper radiator hose to the water pump and next install the accessory drive belt. Slide the fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive in place and fix them using two fan shroud-to-radiator screws. Ensure that there is a 25 mm (1.0 inches) gap between the tips of the fan blades and the fan shroud. Put the fan blade or viscous fan drive onto the shaft of the water pump, fill the cooling system and link the battery cable back to the vehicle's negative terminal. Lastly, put the engine into operation and watch for any leaks.
