2007 Dodge Durango Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Clock Spring Assembly on 2007 Dodge Durango?
A: First, unplug the battery negative cable to shut off the supplemental restraint system and then allow two minutes for the system capacitor to empty. Turn the steering wheel all the way until the front wheels line up straight. Following this, remove the driver air bag from the steering wheel and remove the steering wheel wire harness connections from the upper Clock Spring connector receptacles. Be sure the steering wheel puller is even and doesn't scratch the Clock Spring while attaching the puller to the steering column screws. Get rid of the screw that keeps the tilt steering column knob connected to the tilt actuator and detach the two. From beneath the steering wheel, loosen the two screws on each side of the upper shroud that hold it to the lower one, then push inward on the shroud to flip open the snaps and take it off. Get rid of the center screw holding the lower shroud to the steering column and disconnect the lower shroud. Break the cable connections from the two switch panel wire harnesses at the top of the dash panel and the SAS connector hidden above the foot pedal. Loosen the two securing screws and take out the Clock Spring connected to the multi-function switch mounting housing. Should you want to reuse the Clock Spring, join the Clock Spring rotor to the Clock Spring case; if you are not reusing the Clock Spring, center it again before reinstallation.
