2007 Dodge Durango Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Rack and Pinion System and Ensure Proper Connections and Adjustments on 2007 Dodge Durango?
A: Before you put in the rack and pinion, check the bushings to make sure none are bad and use fresh rack and pinion mounting bolts and nuts. Fit the rack and pinion to the vehicle and screw the nuts and bolts from 4 and 6 until they reach 258 Nm (190 ft. lbs.). Join the power steering lines to the rack and pinion, with the output hose torque required to be 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm) and the input hose torque of 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). First, slide coupler 1 onto gear 3, replace the bolt 2 with a new one and tighten it safely to 57 Nm (42 ft. lbs.). After cleaning the tie rod end studs and the knuckle tapers 5, insert tie rod ends 2 into the knuckles 5, tightening the nuts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). On 3.7L and 4.7L engines, first install the Y-pipe 3 and then place the front crossmember 2 in place. Attach the front pair of tires, remove the steering support and bring the vehicle down to the ground. Take off the lock from the steering wheel, fill the suspension and then change the toe angle.
