2006 Dodge Durango Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Prepare for and Install a Rack and Pinion System on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: Check the bushings prior to fitting the rack and pinion and install fresh gear mounting bolts and nuts when done. Add gear 7 to the vehicle and tighten screws and bolts 4 and 6 to reach 258 Nm (190 ft. lbs.). Attach the power steering lines to the rack and pinion and when fastening the hoses, make sure the pressure hose is tightened to 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) and the return hose to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.). Add the shaft coupler 1 to gear 3, put in a new bolt 2 and fix it by tightening it to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). After cleaning studs 5 and knuckle tapers, place tie rod ends 2 into the steering knuckles 5, tightening the nuts to a torque of 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). Install the Y-pipe 3 next and then install front crossmember 2 on 3.7L and 4.7L engines. Put on the front tires, take out the support and lower the vehicle. Turn the steering wheel, put the required fluid into the system and fix the toe angle.
