  A: To start taking out the rack and pinion, empty the power steering pump as much as available and lock the steering wheel. Support the vehicle well, then get rid of the front tires. When that is done, take the nuts off the tie rod ends and use Puller 8677 to separate the tie rod ends from the knuckles. Take out the rack and pinion pinch bolt and also the lower steering coupling. Turn the rack and pinion all the way to the right and remove the exhaust Y-pipe on 3.7L and 4.7L vehicles only. Unplug the power steering from the rack and pinion and remove the front crossmember. Remove the rack and pinion mounting bolts, washers and nuts, leaning the rack and pinion forward so you can reach, tilting it right and shifting it to hang lower on the left when ready.
