2007 Dodge Nitro Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Water Pump on a 3.7L Engine on 2007 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before you take out and replace the water pump on a 3.7L engine, disconnect the negative terminal and drain the cooling system. Do not disconnect the fan blade assembly from the thermal viscous fan drive if you're changing the water pump. After that, undo the fan shroud-to-radiator screws and remove the coolant overflow hose. Then, pull out the upper fan shroud along with the fan blade/viscous fan drive from the vehicle, making sure the thermal viscous fan drive does not hang in a horizontal position, to stop silicone from going into the bearing assembly. Then, take out the accessory drive belt (1) and loose the lower radiator hose clamp and the lower hose at the water pump. Bring out the eight bolts and the single stud holding the water pump in place, making sure to avoid twisting or breaking the pump where it's connected to the timing chain case/cover or you'll face leaky problems due to damage. Remove the water pump and gasket from the housing, throwing out the gasket.
