2008 Dodge Nitro Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Water Pump on a 3.7L Engine on 2008 Dodge Nitro?
A: Prior to putting in the new pump, clean the surfaces where the old pump's gasket sat. After that, replace the gasket, line up the water pump and attach the mounting bolts using torque of 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Make sure there is no contact between the impeller and the housing covering the timing chain. Hook up the radiator lower hose to the water pump and then put the accessory drive belt into place. Once done, fix the upper fan shroud to the uppermost fan blade/viscous fan drive and ensure all the parts can take air through the radiator. Attach the fan shroud-to-radiator screws and measure 25 mm (1.0 inches) spacing between the fan blade tips and the shroud. Put the coolant into the cooling system and then attach the negative battery cable. Make sure the engine starts and you don't notice any leaks while warming it up.
