2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Work with Air Bags on 2007 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: When diagnosing or fixing elements on the steering wheel, steering column, air bag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel in a car with air bags, you should always deactivate the supplemental restraint system first. The first step is to separate the battery's negative cable and then wait two minutes so the system capacitor discharges. Great effort should be made to avoid letting any foreign materials come inside the driver's air bag or catch between the air bag cushion and the cover, since such items could potentially cause injuries to someone riding in the car in case of deployment. Repainting the driver air bag trim cover is not allowed, because the paint can affect the material's action in a crash and might result in injury. Set the new driver air bag close to where the driver sits to connect its three cables on the back of the air bag housing. Align the two Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire connectors with the air bag inflator connectors again and ensure each is in contact to get an audible click. After that, attach the steering wheel wire harness to the horn switch feed pigtail wire connector found at the rear of the driver air bag housing. Set the driver air bag near the steering wheel so that the wires are not pinched. After taking the underside of the steering wheel off, use two screws to secure the driver air bag to the steering wheel armature, then tighten them to reach a torque of 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). It is important to keep the battery negative cable disconnected until the supplemental restraint system verification procedure is finished after you have serviced any area of the supplemental restraint system.
