2007 Jeep Commander Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Thermostat on a 3.7L or 4.7L Engine on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: The first thing to do to work on the thermostat of a 3.7L or 4.7L engine is to disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery. Drain the liquid out of the cooling system and put the clean coolant into a separate, clean container if it is usable. Lift the vehicle on a lift and then remove the splash shield. Once that's done, use a tool to take off the lower radiator hose clamp and unhook the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing. After that, unhook the thermostat housing mounting bolts, take off the thermostat housing and the thermostat and use only a specified thermostat for your vehicle type.
