2007 Jeep Commander Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Water Pump on a 3.7L Engine on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: Make sure to first clean the gasket mating surfaces before you remove or replace the water pump. After using a new gasket, put the water pump in place and secure it using the mounting bolts tightened to 40 ft. lbs. Make sure the pump's rotation does not touch the timing chain case/cover or the impeller could be damaged. Attach one end of the radiator hose to the water pump and, before putting on the drive belt, release some of the belt tensioner's pressure so the belt runs the water pump in the proper direction. Make sure the top and bottom sections of the fan shroud are firmly attached to the radiator and add the two screws attaching the fan shroud to the radiator. Always make sure there is a minimum clearance of 25 mm (1.0 inches) between the tips of your fan and the shroud. Connect the cooling system, reattach the negative battery cable, turn on the engine, let it run and monitor for any leakage.
