2008 Jeep Commander Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Water Pump from a 3.7L Engine on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Prior to taking out the water pump from these engines, take off the negative battery cable and empty the cooling system. Always reach for the Snap-on clamp tool (hpc-20) if the clamp is larger, be sure to wear safety glasses all the time and do not start the task without these accessories. If you must replace constant tension clamps, use only clamps with the same stamped numbers or letters as your equipment. After that, unscrew the two shroud-to-radiator screws and unhook the coolant overflow hose. Once that is done, disconnect the accessory drive belt. Then, take off the clamp on the lower radiator hose and remove the hose from the pump. Take care not to lift the water pump at the timing chain case/cover or you might end up damaging some important surfaces and get leaks. Get rid of the water pump along with the gasket because you won't need it again.
