2007 Jeep Liberty Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace Exhaust Valve and Intake Valves on 2007 Jeep Liberty?
A: You must first take off the cylinder heads to remove and fit the valve. Open by taking out the rocker arms and lash adjusters, then remove the camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft. To compress the valve spring, use Special Tools C-3422-A and 8519 Adapter, after that, tap the top of the valve spring to remove the spring retainer. Release the two halves of the spring retainer lock carefully, ensuring the valve spring is handled with special care, because it stays under tension until you release the valve spring compressor. Once the valve is out, remove the spring retainer and the spring to make sure there are no sharp burrs inside the Keeper grooves for the valve stem and clean any blocks in the valve stem before taking the valve out of the head. Intake and exhaust valve stem seals are the same, so remove the seals and note the valve with a mark to help out during the final setup. You should check and test the valve springs to see if they can be used again whenever you remove the valves. Look at the valve springs for signs of wear or harm and correctly set the tone device by placing the surface on the 40.12 mm mark on the threaded stud and the zero mark at the front with tool C-647. Lay the spring across the stud, raise the level that presses the spring and use the torque wrench's handle to get a ping. Read the torque displayed when you get the ping. To get the spring load near the end of the spring, multiply the reading by two. Then, tighten or loosen as necessary, following fractional changes shown in the table. Use the Specifications to find out what height and tensions are needed and change or discard any springs that have the wrong specifications.
