2007 Jeep Liberty Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Timing Cover on a 3.7L Engine on 2007 Jeep Liberty?
A: Rubbing alcohol should be used to clean both the timing chain cover and the block before you install the timing cover, since oil and abrasives are likely to scratch or ruin the surface. The 3.7L engine needs Mopar(R) Grey Engine RTV instead of the anaerobic sealer that was originally used as a gasket. If the water passage o-rings show any signs of damage, replace them. Coat the front cover with 3 to 4 mm of Mopar(R) Grey Engine RTV sealer, fit the cover in place and tighten its flange head fasteners according to the specified order to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the crankshaft damper, A/C compressor, generator, accessory drive belt tensioner assembly, two radiator hoses, the heater hoses and the electric fan shroud that comes with the viscous fan drive. Next, complete your job by causing water to flow into the radiator and by connecting the negative battery cable.
