  A: You should first remove the negative cable from the battery to promptly take out and replace the piston and connecting rod. Next, take out the oil pan and gasket/windage tray, both cylinder heads' covers, timing chain cover and the cylinder head(s). When the cylinder ridge reamer is used, first clear the top of the cylinder with the reamer and shield the top of the piston in the bore during this procedure. Each piston and connecting rod should be removed from above the cylinder block, moving the crankshaft to line up the connecting rod in the middle of the bore. Be sure not to mark the connecting rods or caps using a number punch because it can seriously damage them. Avado not to harm the joint surfaces of the fractured rod and cap by using your pen or scribe only to write or mark on the visible parts. After removing the cap, install Special Tool 8507 Connecting Rod Guides into the connecting rod, lift out the piston from the cylinder bore and repeat this for every piston. Take care not to harm the crankshaft journals, because it can result in damage to the engine. Following the removal of the piston and connecting rod, place the bearing cap over the mating connecting rod right away to cover and protect the cracked cap and rod.
