2008 Jeep Liberty Piston Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies into the Bore on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: Always put the piston rings in place before putting the piston and connecting rod assemblies into the bore. Apply oil to both the piston head and rings, afterwards tightly secure the ring compressor over them to guarantee the positions of the rings are unchanged. Place the bearing shell onto the connecting rod and make certain its tabs fit into the slots in the rod and the parting line is positioned correctly. Use clean engine oil to coat the part of the motor that holds the bearings. Secure Connecting Rod Guides 8507 on the threads of the connecting rod bolts. There should be a raised letter "F" on the piston pin bore surface that faces away from the front on both sides of the engine, letting the engine's oil slinger gap be placed in front of the engine. Apply a little engine oil to the inside of the cylinder bore and then clean it. Position the crankshaft so that the journal is under the center of the piston bore, then fit the rod and piston into the bore, making certain that the guides on the connecting rod fit over the journal. Apply the hammer handle to the piston as you carefully place the rod into its position on the journal. Rod bolts in the engine are Torque to Yield types and must be changed each time they are unbolted; never reuse them if they come loose or are removed. Drip engine oil over all the connecting rod bolts and the inside of the bearings before fastening the rod cap and bearings, with a torque of 27 Nm plus 90°. Put in the cylinder head(s), timing chain and cover, cylinder head covers and oil pan with its gasket/windage tray. Add oil to the crankcase leveled as you want and secure the negative cable to the battery.
