2008 Chrysler Aspen Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Side Curtain Air Bag on 2008 Chrysler Aspen?
A: You need to first disable the SRS by isolating the negative terminal of the battery for two minutes, so the capacitor discharges. Always use eye protection, long sleeves and rubber gloves to avoid getting hurt by substances on the air bag unit. Do not allow any foreign items to enter the side curtain air bag, nor let them become wedged between the air bag and headliner. If the air bag isn't working properly but isn't deployed, use the right approach for handling non-deployed supplemental restraints. If you are deploying devices, be sure to look over their service and removal procedures first. Get rid of the headliner and lower trim inside the B-pillar at the start. Remove the side curtain air bag pigtail wire connector from the body wire harness connector found near the inner B-pillar and eliminate the plastic retainers of the pigtail wire from the inner B-pillar. Disconnect the air bag front tether screw from the rivet nut inside the A-pillar, then remove the eight nuts securing the air bag to the U-nuts around the inner roof rail and D-pillar. For the front, take out both plastic retainers between the air bag and the inside pillar and for the right side, disengage the plastic retainer connecting the air bag to the inner roof rail above the quarter window. Hold the side curtain air bag inflator to the interior of the roof rail while you install it or remove it, then take off the clips securing it to the roof and remove the air bag unit through the rear door.
