2009 Chrysler Aspen Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Install an Air Bag While Following Proper Procedures on 2009 Chrysler Aspen?
A: Before installing the driver air bag, turn off the Supplemental Restraint System by disconnecting the negative battery cable, letting the system capacitor discharge for two minutes and then covering the cable with tape. For those systems, you must ensure that the service disconnect is unplugged from the high voltage battery pack. Prevent anything except air bag material from getting into the driver air bag cushion or lying between the cushion and the air bag trim cover and never paint the trim cover because it could affect deployment. If the air bag is not working properly and is still in the unit, use the procedures given for non-deployed extra safety belts. If you do deploy, look over the service procedures for taking out the panel afterward. Bring the driver air bag up against the steering wheel to make sure the three connections on the back of the air bag assembly are linked. Definitely push both air bag wire connections into their inflator connector receptacles until there is an audible sound. Relink the wiring for the steering wheel horn switch to the wire connector for the horn switch feed from the passenger air bag housing on the other side of the steering wheel. Install the driver air bag into the steering wheel, paying attention to make sure you do not press the wires or harness together. Turn the steering wheel to face you and insert the two screws by the underside from the outside. Tighten them to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Don't connect the negative battery cable or HEV service disconnect now and test the SRS after each SRS repair or service procedure.
