- Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Passenger Air Bag on Chrysler Aspen?A:First, turn off and separate the battery cable from the negative terminal and wait for two minutes so that the SRS system capacitor finishes discharging. It is important to use rubber gloves, eye protection and a shirt that covers your arms when you touch an air bag, due to possible irritants found on the air bag and near it. If the air bag is either ineffective or has been harmed but remains unexploded, work through the recommended process for any still wrapped supplemental restraints. Read the logical steps for service after an air bag deployment before you decide to remove it. Take the defroster grille off the top of the instrument panel and then pop out the Glove Box. Go into the glove box, release the retaining screws on the bracket and you will see screws on the passenger air bag side. Slide a trim stick or similar wide, flat-bladed device under the edges of the passenger air bag door and lift them away from the instrument panel to remove the snap features. Pull the passenger air bag far enough out, then slide the red lock so that it is on the side, depress the connector latch tab and pull the two connectors apart to access and remove the air bag wiring connector. End by removing the entire passenger air bag from its place in the instrument panel.

Join the plastic retainer for the right side air bag to the rail along the inner roof above the quarter window and then secure the air bag front tether to the inner A-pillar using two plastic retainers. Attach the side curtain air bag to the U-nuts in the inner roof rail and the D-pillar using the eight tightened screws at 10 Nm (90 in. lbs) and also tighten the screw joining the front tether to the rivet nut in the inner A-pillar at 6 Nm (50 in. lbs.). Link the side curtain air bag pigtail wire connector 3 to the body wire harness connector 2 where they connect on the lower inner B-pillar, verify that the connectors' latches are completely connected and hold the pigtail wires in place using their retainers. Install the lower trim on the B-pillar and put the headliner back into the car. Experts recommend you do not attach the SRS negative battery cable before you have performed the check for SRS after any repairs.
