- Q: How to Install a Power Steering Hose in a 3.8L Engine for Return Hose on 2008 Chrysler Pacifica?A: Begin by placing the return hose down into the engine compartment and cleaning the connection with a lint-free cloth. Replace the O-ring, coat it with clean power steering fluid and then attach the other end at the power steering gear. As you install, keep the tubes 18 mm apart to stop routes breaking as the engine shifts. Mount the return hose into the power steering gear by screwing in the tube nut at 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) Attach the return hose to the pressure hose with a tie strap, then put the engine cradle cooling loop clamp on the return hose and tighten the mounting screw to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Now, put the return hose clamp on the left cradle mount and bolt in the mounting screw, tightening it to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Attach the pressure hose routing clamp on top of the return hose routing clamp at the right engine cradle side and put in the supplied screw, tightening it to 10 Nm which is about 90 in. lbs. Run the hoses around the A/C compressor and secure the return hose tube to the pressure hose tube with the routing clip. After you lower the vehicle, reach the hose from above, attach a new O-ring and moisten it with clean power steering fluid before linking it to the power steering reservoir. Attach the return hose to the reservoir so the bead on the reservoir fitting is between the hose clamp and the hose connection. Support the vehicle so it's not touching the ground. Then above the compressor, fit the pressure and suction hoses into their respective inlet ports, secure them using the routing clamp and nipple and tighten the clamp to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). After you install the drive belt splash shield, put the tire and wheel assembly on each side of the car and fasten the wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Loosen the suspension, secure the negative battery cable again, re-fill and bleed the power steering system and check for leaks afterward.
