2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Fuel Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Fuel Pump and Gauge Sender on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: To work on the fuel gauge sender, first empty the tank and breathe fresh air, be mindful not to start anything that could cause a spark nearby. Compress the fuel pressure by opening the fuel filler cap and repeating a Fuel System Pressure Release. After that, open the air cleaner lid, unplug the inlet air temperature sensor and take off the makeup air hose and remove the negative battery cable. Lift the vehicle on stands and next remove the fuel tank. Make sure to wipe the top of the fuel tank around the fuel pump module, as this will stop dust and debris from entering your fuel system and damaging it. After removing the fuel filter lines from the fuel pump module, be sure to note the place of the module on the tank, since this will help the fuel gauge work properly once you reattach everything. Take care when you remove the lock ring with Special Tool #9340 because the fuel in the reservoir can spill out when the pump module is freed. Then, pull the fuel pump module and seal out of the tank and throw the seal away.
