2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install an Ignition Lock Cylinder on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, place the ignition switch in Run and confirm that the actuator shaft in the lock housing is in its Run position, all while avoiding injury to key-in plunger (3) during installation. Place the part with the retaining tabs (2) and actuator shaft (3) onto the lock cylinder, then line the switch portion with the key-in plunger (3). Afterward, slip the switch over the retaining tabs. Attach the ignition switch (2) to the wiper shaft with mounting screw (1) tuned to 2 Nm. Mount the lock cylinder housing on the Run position and bring it in line with the steering column. With the Special Tool 10041, Torx(R) Plus Bit or a Tamper-Proof Torx(R) Plus (Five point) 30-bit screwdriver, place the two screws (1) inside the lock cylinder housing (2), securing them to the column by tightening to 16 Nm (142 in. lbs.). Turn the actuator to the Run inside the lock cylinder, put the key into the key cylinder and move the key to the Run position. Place the retaining tab on the key cylinder into the top of the lock cylinder housing and, without forcing it, slide the key cylinder in so that it's held by the retaining tab. Move the key from Off to Start and back again, then slowly insert and remove it, because this helps ensure that the lock cylinder and key cylinder are functioning correctly. Cover the lock cylinder housing (3) with the ring (2), then slot the long fingers on the Skreem/Wcm and lock them into the holes of the lock cylinder housing. Fasten the Skreem/Wcm (2) to the lock cylinder housing (3) with screw (1) and tighten it to 3.5 Nm (31 in. lbs.). If the vehicle's transaxle is automatic, attach the ignition shift interlock cable by putting the cable connector (3) into the lock cylinder housing until it clicks. Put the lock cylinder housing back in and fasten the column wiring harness routing clip to the bottom. Then return all removed parts to their proper places. The last step is testing the steering column-mounted parts to ensure the interlock for the ignition-shift function works.
