2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Neutral Safety Switch on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First shut off the battery by removing both cables, then take out the air cleaner assembly, the battery hold down clamp and the battery itself to change the transmission range sensor. After that, lift the battery tray and remove the transmitter cable off the manual valve lever before pulling out the lever. Remove the connector from the transmission range sensor and raise the vehicle by hoist. Remove the bolts holding the oil pan, the pan and then the oil filter. After that, loosen the bolts holding the valve body-to-transaxle case together and detach the park rod rollers from the guide bracket to free the valve body. To take out the valve body, switch the manual valve lever all the way clockwise to low or first gear and try not to handle it carelessly, to keep the manual shaft pilot intact. Once done, get rid of the manual shaft seal and the TRS screw and pull the Transmission Range Sensor up the manual shaft to remove it.
