Make sure you notice that pistons have a directional marking facing the front half of the engine. To remove pistons and connecting rods from the cylinder block, hold the engine in the TDC position with the pistons centered in their bores. Write the cylinder number on the cap of each connecting rod with a permanent marker; avoid stamps or punches to keep from causing harm to the rod. Carefully take out the connecting rod bolts and cap, so that the surfaces of the rod and cap aren't damaged and don't ever reuse the connecting rod bolts.
