2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Timing Cover and Its Components on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Make sure to secure the timing belt cover with fasteners that have been tightened to 50 in. lbs. After that, install the upper torque strut. For turbocharged cars, link the air conditioning lines together where they meet at the junction block above the upper timing belt cover and then recharge the air conditioning system. Set up the torque valves as the book directs you to do. For the timing cover underneath, add it and tighten all bolts to the required 6 Nm (50 in. lbs.), next install the right engine bracket, making sure the power steering pump is in the right spot and tighten bracket bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Install the engine and position it by hand. Then, attach the right engine mount bolt and tighten it to 118 Nm (87 ft. lbs.). Attach the power steering pump and bracket and later mount the upper radiator closure panel. Install the torque strut bracket on the strut tower, put on the ground strap and secure the upper torque strut. Link the A/C lines and charge the system and next raise the vehicle. Link the catalytic converter to the manifold and attach the A/C pressure switch connector as well. Mount the crankshaft damper, the set of accessory drive belts and the lower torque strut and then check the manufacturer's instructions for setting the lower torque strut. Finally, add the proper splash shield, right front wheel and black battery cable. With the rear cover, install it and bolts, tighten them according to the specification and then install and secure the timing belt idler pulley at 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Use the bolt- tensioning nut instead of the impact wrench near the camshaft-to-sprocket locating dowel pin to protect it from becoming damaged. Set the camshaft sprockets into place with holder 6847 and use a torque wrench to tighten their center bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Next, put in the timing belt and afterwards the front timing belt covers.
