First, you should remove the connecting rod by removing the oil pan and the cylinder heads. Remove the top ridge from each cylinder bore with a reliable ridge reamer prior to removing the pistons, to keep the tops of the pistons covered at all times. You must get the pistons and connecting rods from the top of the block, so turn the crankshaft to position all the connecting rods in the cylinder bores. Check the connecting rods and connecting rod caps to determine the cylinders and paint or scribe each one if needed. Tilt the engine so the lower end blocks, remove the cap cover, put on the detectors and carefully pull the rod and piston assemblies out without damaging the journals. After removing the old component, put the bearing cap onto the new mating rod.
