- Q: How to Replace a Damaged Seat Belt and Retractor Unit on 2008 Chrysler Town & Country?A: The first step to replacing an old or damaged front seat belt and retractor is to disable the main safety system by unplugging the negative terminal of the car battery, waiting for the capacitor to discharge for two minutes and isolating the positive terminal. Examine every seat belt, buckle, mounting part, retractor, tether and anchor for proper condition and installation and secure loose fasteners. Place the front seat belt and retractor system onto the lower B-pillar, keeping the upper retractor hook into the B-pillar's bottom slot. Insert and bolt on the screw for the lower retractor bracket to the B-pillar and tighten them to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). After, attach the body wire harness connector to the seat belt tensioner initiator on the retractor. With export market vehicles, put the second body wire harness connector into the seat belt switch receptacle on the retractor. Make sure the belt web guide is installed at the B-pillar and tighten the screw to 9 Nm (79 in. lbs.). Put the lower and upper trim back onto the inside of the B-pillar. Set the seat belt turning loop on the seat height adjuster located right on the B-pillar, then tighten the screw to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Apply a new trim cover to the height adjuster, shift the front seat belt lower anchor onto the frame bracket on the front cushion's outboard seat and place and secure the screw there, connecting tightly. Press the seat belt anchor cover over the opening at the rear of the outboard seat side shield until you hear a click. Do not put the battery negative cable back in until the air bag system has been checked with the proper test processes after any SRS part service.
