2008 Dodge Caliber Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: To disconnect the camshaft, first remove the black cable from the battery, release the connectors 1 from the coil and open the engine cover. After that, remove the cover of the cylinder head, lift the car and remove the right splash shield. Set the crankshaft to TDC 1 and confirm the camshaft timing marks 3 are together. Mark along the chain link with the painting marker at timing marks 1. Pull plug 1 from the front cover and insert an allen wrench into the timing tensioner plug hole. This will let you release the tensioner by lifting the ratchet, while the allen wrench stays in place. Confirm the camshaft timing marks 3 are pointed at one another and circle the corresponding timing marks on the camshaft sprocket as well as the size 1 chain links with a paint marker. First, set wedge 9701 1 between the camshaft phasers and then tap wedge 9701 2 until it is snug against them both. Simply remove the front camshaft bearing cap and then go ahead to slowly unbolt the remaining camshaft bearing cap bolts on the intake and exhaust slowly, one turn each. Raise the rear end of the intake camshaft 1 and as you do, rotate it, removing it from its front cradle. Take the timing chain 2 off the sprocket 1 after that, unplug the exhaust camshaft. After that, tie the timing chain with wire to make sure it doesn't fall into the timing chain cover.
