2008 Dodge Caliber Piston Ring Set Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the Proper Way to Install a Piston Ring Set on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: Ensure that the mark on the top of the upper and intermediate rings is pointed upward when fitting them on the piston. Place the oil ring expander first, them the upper oil ring side rail and next the lower oil ring side rail. For the side rails, fit the end of one into the area between the piston ring groove and oil ring expander, hold the side rail securely and push it into place using your hand, not a piston ring expander. The compression rings on normally aspirated engines are labeled Y1 for the top ring and Y2 for the other which should both be on the upper side of the piston. On a turbocharged engine, the words "TOP" on the compression rings should face upward. After that, fit the No. 2 piston ring and position the No. 1 piston ring close by, as seen from above, to ensure the extra oil can be drawn away from the cylinder. Put the top compression ring cap in the 1 position, the second compression ring gap at position 3, the oil ring rails at positions 2 and 4 and the oil expander ring gap at position 1.
