2008 Dodge Caliber Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston in an Engine on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: Removing and changing the piston and connecting rod assembly should not be done until the engine has been taken out. After that, remove the cylinder head and drain out the engine oil. Following this, you need to get rid of the oil pan and filter, along with the balance shaft and ladder frame. Prior to piston removal, take out any carbon or dirt in the cylinder as it may cause marks on the skirts of the pistons. When machining your cylinder bores, use a dependable ridge reamer to remove the ridge on the heads, while protecting the tops of the pistons. Use a crankshaft to spin each connecting rod to the center of its cylinder and set your mark over the connecting rod cap using permanent ink or paint, without using any sort of number stamp or punch. Carefully take out the bolts and cap of the connecting rod after making sure you wont use them again. Gently move all of your pistons and rods out of the cylinder, fitting the bearing cap onto the matching rods and repeat this for each piston and connecting rod.
