2007 Dodge Caliber Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on 2007 Dodge Caliber?
A: First, release the negative cable from the battery, remove coil electrical connections and pull the engine cover to remove the camshaft. Next, lift the vehicle and take off the cylinder head cover. Inside, you'll find the splash shield on the right side which you should also remove. Move the engine to the top dead center and then make sure the camshaft timing marks 3 are on top of each other. Use a paint marker to mark the chain link at the spot where timing mark 1 falls. Once the timing tensioner plug is out, insert an allen wrench through the new hole to rise the ratchet. Hold the allen wrench position while you release the tensioner. Ensure that the camshaft timing marks 3 point toward each other and then paint the mark for each camshaft sprocket timing with a paint marker, aligning it to the corresponding chain link 1. Put wedges 9701 1 and 2 in and lightly tap them to secure the camshaft phasers. First, remove the cap from the front camshaft bearing, then take off the remaining bolts that hold the camshaft caps in one by one. Lift the back end of the intake camshaft up with the rotator over the front bearing 1, then pull it out of the cradle at the front. Move the timing chain 2 away from sprocket 1 and look to remove the exhaust camshaft. After that, tie the timing chain with wire so it does not fall into the timing chain cover.
