Should you remove the welded ribs, place anti-rattle clips (3) between the upper and lower parts of the adapter (4). If you have removable film, take it off the double sticky isolator attached to the brake pad. Put installed new inboard and outboard brake pads on the caliper adapter (4), as both new pads can be placed on either side. Insert the guide pins of the caliper into the caliper adapter to allow clearing the caliper bosses for installation; then rotate the caliper downwards so that the upper mounting boss fits above the lower guide pin. Place and tighten the upper caliper guide pin bolt (1) to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) while supporting the guide pin (3) still. Attach the tire and wheel assembly (1) and fasten the wheel with nuts (3) to 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) or use 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) for police cars. Lower the car and press the brake pedal several times so the pads reach the caliper and the rotor surface and next check and adjust the brake fluid in the reservoir (1). Note that following installation, the first few times you brake, the system may not have maximum efficiency until a burnish is performed and the police agency should do this in a controlled, purpose-built environment. After everything is set, begin a test drive and stop a few times to burnish off the brakes adequately.
- Q: How to Remove and Replace Rear Brake Pads on Dodge Challenger?A:On all models except the SRT8, retract the rear brake caliper piston by removing the reservoir cap, squeezing the caliper and replacing the cap to avoid damaging the piston. Replace both inboard and outboard brake pads on the caliper adapter as they are the same and fit both ways. Before fitting the upper caliper guide pin bolt, ensure the guides are clean and covered in adhesive or equivalent and tighten the bolt to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) with the guide pin in position. Take the tire/wheel assembly out and replace it, torqueing the wheel mounting nuts to 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) or 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) if it's a police car. Use the brake pedal a few times to press the brake pads to the rotor and caliper and then check and adjust the brake fluid in the reservoir. Brake systems may be less effective when you use them for the first time after installing them. It is necessary to perform a burnish procedure whenever new brakes are installed on Police Package-equipped vehicles, always performing it safely at the police place of business.
