Q: How to Install an Oil Pan on 2008 Dodge Challenger?
A: Before assembling the pan to the engine, clean both the engine block and pan at the point where they contact. Put Mopar(R) Engine RTV on the four T-joints, taking care that the bottom of the gasket is covered by a line measuring approximately 4.5 mm x 25 mm at every point. Because the old gasket isn't good enough, you should replace it with a new oil pan gasket/windage tray assembly. If you removed the oil pump pickup tube, replace it using a new O-ring and make the pickup tube retainers snug, at 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Replace all the horizontal M10 fasteners, these have to be 5 mm longer than normal. Fasten the oil pan with new M6 fasteners for improved results. Make sure the rear of the oil pan matches the rear of the engine block and put on the M10 and M6 oil pan retainers finger tight for now. Put the M6 bolts to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.) twice, first in the given order, then second after the M10 bolts were tightened to 54 Nm (39 ft. lbs.) and finally tighten the same M6 bolts to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). Lower the vehicle and add Engine Lift Fixture 8984A, Engine Lift Adapter 8984-UPD and Engine Support Fixture 8534B so you can position the engine properly. Support the vehicle, install all engine mount nuts and tighten them to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Put the engine oil dipstick and tube in place, fit the steering gear, add the mounting bolts and fasten them so the torque reading is 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Place the chassis lower, add the manifold, pour in new oil, fit the oil filter, attach the belly pan, secure the negative battery cable and start the vehicle to check for leaks.
