2008 Dodge Dakota Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Front Lower Ball Joint on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: When installing the front lower ball joint, add plenty of lubricant to the threads of the tool to help it last longer and work safely during both removal and installation. To begin, insert special tool C-4212-F (press) into slot (3) and use tool 8441-4 for the rear ball joint and 9654-1 for the front ball joint. After that, place the snap ring (3) onto the ball joint flange (2). If your vehicle is 4X4-equipped, take off the support from the halfshaft and put it in place. Put the steering knuckle in place, then join the tie rod end (2) with the steering knuckle (5) and attach the end with the retaining nut (1), tightening to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). If your truck has a halfshaft, tighten the nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). Mount the brake caliper next and then slide the rotor onto the assembly. Follow this with the tire and wheel. Now, adjust the vehicle's ride height and carry out a wheel alignment.
