2008 Dodge Dakota Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Brake Caliper on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: Avoid using petroleum-based grease; only rub non-petroleum based grease on any rubber parts when installing the disc brake caliper. Clean the slide pin bores completely to get rid of leftover grease and then use either the grease provided or Dow Corning-807(R) grease. Thoroughly coat the slide pins (3) on every surface they will touch by applying oil. Then, mount the elevator (2) to the slide pin (3) and put it into the adapter (1). Drive the pin through the adapter all the way and carefully press down on the boot close to the slide pin head to let out trapped air. Be sure to coat the banjo bolt with a new copper washer during installation. Join the disc brake caliper (1) to the brake caliper adapter (2) and next fit the new banjo bolt (4) and washers onto the caliper (6). Tighten the bolt to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). After that, put in the caliper slide pin bolts (2) and tighten them to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). After that, bleed the base brake system, fit the tire and wheel assembly and bring the vehicle down to the ground.
