2007 Dodge Dakota Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Brake Caliper Without Using Petroleum-Based Grease on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: Grease should never be petroleum-based when installing the brake caliper; use non-petroleum, sulfur-containing grease instead. To remove old grease from the slide pin bores, use the grease packet supplied with the kit or some Dow Corning-807(R) grease. Spread shoe polish on every side of the slide pins, set the boot onto one of the slide pins and place both into the adapter. Pushing the slide pin fully into the adapter will allow you to squeeze the boot tip, allowing trapped air to escape. As you install, replace the banjo bolt washers with new ones made of copper. Put the disc brake caliper on the brake caliper adapter, then join the banjo bolt with new washers to the caliper, tightening it to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Set the caliper slide pin bolts and tighten them down to a torque of 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). With the prop rod out of the brake pedal, bleed only the problematic area; if you do not get a good pedal response, perform a base bleed system instead. After that, place the tire and wheel assembly and then slowly lower the vehicle.
