2008 Dodge Dakota Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on a 3.7L V-6 Engine on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: Always ensure you first release the fuel system pressure before servicing the fuel rail on a 3.7L V-6 engine, since it is always pressurized with fuel. Both left and right fuel rails should be swapped as an assembly and never try to separate them where the connector tubes (without clamps) are found. Bending or twisting any of the tubes can cause problems, so avoid doing so when removing the fuel rail. To start, take out the fuel tank filler tube cap, then release the pressure in the fuel system accordingly. First, unplug the cable from the negative battery and afterwards remove the air duct and air box from the throttle body. First, remove the bracket from the throttle body and then pull on the clip and fuel line at the fuel rail. Eliminate any vacuum hoses at the throttle body and take out all six fuel injector electrical connectors by pushing the red slider away from the injectors as you press the tab. Each section of the wiring harness for the fuel injection system is labeled so injector position can be found. After that, unplug all connectors at the throttle body sensors and take out the six ignition coils. When that is done, take off the four fuel rail mounting bolts. Rock and pull on the left side of the fuel rail until the fuel injector is no longer obstructing a hole in the cylinder head and do the same for the right side until all the injectors have cleared. At last, pull the fuel rail, together with the injectors, from off the engine. When it's time to take out the fuel injectors, make sure to use the proper procedure.
