2009 Dodge Dakota Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Water Pump on a 3.7/4.7L Engine on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Begin by cleaning the mating surfaces on the gasket when installing the water pump on a 3.7/4.7L engine. Place the new gasket over the water pump and set it in position. After that, install the mounting bolts, turning them to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). Make sure the water pump spins without touching the timing chain case/cover as it moves around. Link the upper radiator hose to your water pump and then place the accessory drive belt on the engine. Connect the fan shroud to the fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly and then put in the two screws that hold the fan shroud to the radiator. There should be about 25 mm (1.0 inches) of distance between every fan's tip and the fan shroud. Put the fan blade or viscous fan drive assembly on top of the water pump shaft. Purge the air from the cooling system, refill it, after that, link the negative battery cable back up and make sure there are no leaks.
