2008 Dodge Dakota Windshield Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Windshield on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: Make sure you give the urethane a minimum of 24 hours to cure before restoring your vehicle to regular use. Lower the left and right front door glass and if you have a rear glass slider, also open it so the passenger area is less likely to become pressurized and cause water leaks. Clean off most of the old bonding agent on the windshield fence, leaving a small amount left over and add new support spacers to the cowl beneath the windshield opening where some are missing or broken. If the windshield was already installed, level the old adhesive so that it's only about 1 mm thick and remove any pieces of loose adhesive left behind. Elsewhere, apply four spacers to the a-pillars, slide the lower piece into the holes from the bottom side before pushing the windshield into place at the center. Reposition the lower spacers to center the windshield, put adhesive tape on around the windshield and confirm that the windshield gap is horizontal. Gently cut the tape using a sharp knife and take off the windshield. Wash and dry the area with purpose-made glass cleaner, check that the primer hasn't been damaged and apply a second coat where needed. When using a new windshield, follow the same way to install and position the spacers, clean the windshield for damage and apply primer around the glass's perimeter to 15 mm of width, letting it air dry for at least 10 minutes. Open and vacuum the windshield area, even out the old seal by about 1 mm and apply primer to any damaged sections. Coat the windshield seal with adhesive using a triangular nozzle and install the windshield within 5 minutes, with measurements of about 9.5 - 12.0 mm wide by 12.7 - 14.0 mm high. Lift the windshield into position, guided by the tape and press it down slowly, so as not to press from both sides at once. For the last part, screw on the headliner, a-pillar trim, cowl grille, rearview mirror and windshield molding retainer.
