2008 Dodge Durango Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Rear A/C Evaporator on 2008 Dodge Durango?
A: Adjust the refrigerant oil before installing the rear A/C evaporator to prevent both A/C issues and possible harm to the compressor. If you're just changing the A/C evaporator, pour in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the recommended oil to the refrigerant system. Whenever a refrigerant line is opened, it's important to replace the seals and gaskets to stop refrigerant leaks. Make sure the rear A/C evaporator is placed into the top of the rear HVAC housing, then remove all tape and plugs from both the opened evaporator and extension tube and from the rear expansion valve ports. Lubricate all the new rubber O-ring seals you have with clean refrigerant oil and then put them on the evaporator and extension tube fittings, using only the O-rings for R-134a. Mount the rear A/C expansion valve in between the rear A/C evaporator tubes and the rear extension tube tapping block, using two nuts tightened to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Then, place an insulator around the rear A/C evaporator tubes and install the rear air inlet housing on the HVAC housing, holding it there with screws fastened to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). After connecting the rear HVAC wire harness to the rear blower motor and resistor, set in the rear HVAC housing. When you replace several A/C System components, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to know how much oil to add and only use the refrigerant oil recommended by the manufacturer for your A/C compressor.
