2008 Dodge Durango Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How is a Knock Sensor Installed and Replaced in an Engine on 2008 Dodge Durango?
A: Because the two knock sensors are fastened to the cylinder block underneath the intake manifold and share one harness, they must be replaced as a set. You can see the tag marked "LEFT" near the left sensor which also has a bigger and more easily visible bolt head than the right sensor does. Maintaining the proper location of the left/right sensors matters, as the Powertrain Control Module identifies their placements. Take the intake manifold off in the beginning of the process. After that, pull the knock sensor dual pigtail harness away from the engine wiring harness found at the rear of the engine. Two sensor mounting bolts must be removed and no adhesive or sealant should ever be applied to the small foam pieces on the threads that hold the bolts in assembly. Quit with unplugging the sensors from the car's engine.
