2009 Dodge Durango Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2009 Dodge Durango?
A: Remove most of the power steering fluid from the pump and central parts before you lock the steering wheel. Lift the vehicle and then take out the front tires. After that, take the nuts off the tie rod ends and use Puller 8677 to unlink the tie rod ends from the knuckles. Take out the rack and pinion pinch bolt and unscrew the lower steering coupling. Bear in mind that the tie rods will partially separate as you turn the rack and pinion right. Turn the rack and pinion to its maximum right position and after that remove the exhaust Y-pipe only for 3.7L and 4.7L engines. After removing the lines from the rack and pinion, remove the front crossmember from the steering box. After that, remove all of the rack and pinion's mounting bolts and washers, along with the bolts and nuts from the rack and pinion shaft and then tip the rack and pinion forward to free it, move it to the right and turn it down on the left to pull it from the car.
