2008 Dodge Durango Windshield Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Windshield on 2008 Dodge Durango?
A: Once you've installed the windshield, do not use the car again until the urethane has cured for at least 24 hours. If you have rear slider windows, open them and roll down the front door windows on each side, so the pressure inside the car doesn't cause water to leak. Scrape away as much old urethane from the windshield fence as possible, keeping about 1-2 mm so that the finish and bond are secure and don't remove it all. If the support spacers beneath the windshield opening are damaged or removed, place fresh ones in their place. Remove excess beads of adhesive from the previous windshield on the outer body and level the rest at about 1 mm lower. Place four new spacers (2) on the A-pillars and check that they are equal in spacing on top and bottom before fastening in the lower spacer assemblies (1) by putting the flat side up. With the windshield (1) at the center of the opening, put the sides and lower spacers (2 & 3) under it and adjust the lower spacers (3) so that the roof gap is correct. Put adhesive tape (1) on the top of the windshield and measure to confirm that it is installed parallel before you remove the tape and the glass. First, wipe down and dry the area of glass (2), then look for damage on the glass primer and apply primer to any spots that look damaged. Use primer to coat the glass edge (1) within 15 millimeters from the edge (0.5 inch) (2) and let it air dry for at least 10 minutes. A new windshield is installed by fixing four spacers (2) to the A-pillars, putting the lower rack spacers (1) in, placing the windshield (1) in the middle and sealing it all with adhesive tape. Clear debris off of the windshield, apply primer onto the part you will attach and let it dry completely. Wash and vacuum the area inside the windshield opening, clean away over 1 millimeter of hard old adhesive and patch and prime any damaged spots. To install, place a bead of adhesive (1) on the windshield seal so the bead measures 9.5 - 12.0 mm wide by 12.7 - 14.0 mm tall (1 and 2), using the triangular nozzle. Put the windshield in place using the tape to show you where to put it, then press it down by hand, making sure not more than one person holds it, so that it does not crack. After that, add the cowl grille and the rear view mirror.
