How to Install an Axle Shaft on 2008 Dodge Nitro?

To put in the axle shaft, place (1) it into the axle tube (2) and properly align it with the side gear splines. Put gear lubricant on the bearing material and the rubber seal. After that, connect the C-lock (1) to the end of the axle shaft and push to make sure it seats inside the side gear. Next, slide the pinion mate shaft (1) inside the differential case (2) past the two thrust washers and the differential pinions. Carefully put the shaft into the differential case hole, ensuring the two holes line up and then secure everything with the lock screw (4) and two applications of Mopar Lock & Seal or the equivalent on the threads. Tighten the screw to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.). Leave the fluid level alone and install the differential cover and rear brake elements.
