2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install an Alternator on 3.7L, 4.7L, and 5.7L Engines on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Fix the alternator to the engine by placing it correctly and securing it with 2 horizontally placed bolts and one vertical bolt, making sure all are tightened to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm). Attach the field wire connector to the back of the generator, join the B+ terminal eyelet to the generator output stud and fasten them together with the mounting nut at 8.8 ft. lbs. (12 Nm). It is important that the serpentine accessory belt is in the proper place to prompt the water pump to move in the correct pattern and not cause the engine to overheat. Attach the generator drive belt and then reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. With the 5.7L engine, put the generator near the engine and screw the generator in with the 2 provided mounting bolts, tightening them to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm). Place the support bracket in front of the generator, bolt it with nuts and tighten them to 41 Newton meters (30 ft. lbs.). Affix the field wire connector to the generator's back and use a 8.8 ft. lb. (12 Nm) screw to tighten the eyelet to the generator's output stud. Before installing and reconnecting the battery cable, double-check that the serpentine accessory drive belt is in the correct place.
