2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Detach a Starter Motor on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Begin by unhooking the negative battery cable and elevating and supporting the vehicle and only then take out the starter motor. If 4WD and some transmissions are installed, a second support bracket lies between the axle and transmission; remove the 2 bolts on the support bracket at the transmission and pivot the bracket slightly to access the lower starter bolt. In a manual transmission, remove only 1 bolt and 1 nut, but in an automatic transmission, remove all 2 bolts. Lift the starter motor frontwards in the engine bay until the starter pinion housing's nose end is no longer in contact with the motor. Be careful to keep the starter motor raised with your hand to stop it from swinging loose from the wire harness. Drop the starter motor down, tilt the nose downwards and remove the nut that holds the battery positive cable wire harness connector eyelet to the solenoid's battery terminal stud. Separate the positive cable wire harness connector away from the solenoid connector receptacle and uninstall the starter motor next.
